International Accreditation Service offers accreditation to organizations that train and/or certify commissioning personnel. IAS tailors its accreditation programs to serve national and international needs of governmental regulatory bodies and diverse industries concerned with personnel competency using uniform standards and best practices.

The International Green Construction Code (IgCC) establishes requirements for certain buildings to be commissioned. To aid code officials in enforcing commissioning, the International Code Council (ICC) has published a Commissioning Guideline (ICC G4-2012). In May 2012, the ICC G4 Development Committee, requested that IAS develop criteria for accreditation of entities involved in certification and training of commissioning agents to aid building officials with enforcement of code-mandated commissioning requirements.

To aid the regulatory community, IAS formed a new IAS Technical Advisory Council (TAC) on Sustainability. The IAS TAC members represented regulators, standards development organizations, consultants and end users. The TAC developed an Accreditation Criteria for Organizations Providing Training and/or Certification of Commissioning Personnel (AC476) after two rounds of public comments. IAS AC476 was approved during the IAS Accreditation Committee meeting, February 10, 2014, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, in Los Angeles, CA.

Two types of companies are eligible to seek accreditation under AC476: personnel certification bodies and training agencies. Both types of companies begin the accreditation process by contacting IAS and completing the application for accreditation of organizations providing training and/or certification of commissioning personnel.

IAS operates accreditation programs under internationally recognized protocols that comply with ISO/IEC Standard 17011 Conformity Assessment General requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies. As a full member and signatory to the multilateral recognition arrangements (MLAs) of the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation and the International Accreditation Forum, IAS can facilitate international recognition of its accreditations.
