IAS Building Department Accreditation is a nationally recognized program created by the IAS, a subsidiary of ICC. It is based on accreditation criteria developed in public hearings and approved by building officials and uses evaluation teams comprised of practicing building officials. Accreditation under the program provides independent verification that building departments operate under the highest ethical, legal and technical standards while providing enhanced life safety and property protection for its citizens.

Clark County was evaluated across 13 distinct categories of criteria and underwent rigorous assessments to earn accreditation. IAS evaluation teams assessed critical elements of the department including customer service and its processes for permitting, plan review, code interpretation and code enforcement. The on-site teams also visited construction sites to appraise the performance of the department’s inspection process in real-life situations.
