Standards Development Organizations

AC803®

IAS provides accreditation for Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), against accreditation criteria (AC803), based on national, regional and international relevant standardization development procedures’ documents and legislation. The SDOs accreditation process involves an assessment of the standardization process and procedures, as well as SDOs management system. Being an IAS accredited SDO provides a global objective demonstration that the SDOs are possessing the competent personnel, organization, experience, knowledge, procedures and commitment to develop normative documents in accordance to specified requirements, through a well-documented and evaluated management system.

IAS Accreditation for Standards Development Organizations

  • Verifies that SDOs own and apply written standardization procedures and management system, enabling them to develop standardization products in specific fields of expertise.

  • Demonstrates SDOs successful evaluation on their performance to consistently develop standardization products of the required quality, but does not cover the standardization products themselves, and their design or performance characteristics.

  • Provides a worldwide recognized objective certainty that the outcome of the SDOs work is fully documented, objectively performed and supervised, according to specific rules and criteria.

  • Offers an important tool for public or private, national, or regional organizations, sectorial institutions, entities or companies to get, fit for purpose, standardization products.
