IAS Board Member Mo Bayat Receives Life-time Achievement Award
Mo Bayat has been recognized by the local chapter of the Canadian Homebuilders with the Lifetime Achievement award. It is rare for a municipal chief building official to receive this type of recognition, which speaks volumes to his dedication and impact this community.
Since starting with the City of Kelowna in 2004, Mr. Bayat cultivated relationships with industries across Kelowna, BC, and Canada. He has spent many years building strong connections with the local construction community, based on practical decision-making, consistent timing, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in customer service. Mr. Bayat is both a tough negotiator and a solutions-oriented leader who has never shied away from hard decisions. His proactive approach to problem-solving means that his supervisors have rarely had to intervene to resolve issues.
Mr. Bayat’s legacy includes achieving accreditation by the International Accreditation Service, making Kelowna the only accredited building department in Canada. He has also been instrumental in unique customer service initiatives, such as the builder support kiosk in Rona and the introduction of property information reports.
In addition to his work with the City, Mr. Bayat has supported the Building Officials Association of BC and NRCAN on code and professional certification standards. He regularly teaches training sessions to help both his colleagues and industry members improve. His contributions have not gone unnoticed. His commitment to excellence and leadership has been evident in every aspect of his work.
Although he has not officially announced when he plans to retire, we know when that day comes, he will be missed both in the City and across Kelowna.
Congratulations, Mr. Bayat, on this well-deserved recognition. Your dedication and hard work have made a significant impact on the community!
